Tonight on Jake's Showcase http://youtube.com/JakesShowcase I have just released my video "Jake Johnston - "Run Sailor Jack" Poetry" http://youtu.be/IIgUPJctYbg currently at 0 Views 1 Like 0 Dislike. It was done single shot with natural and overhead lighting.
Ok you can call me a wuss for not pulling off a song here. Truth was this was a song but it was just so hard to get the chords right and with so many words....9 verses shortened down to 3 giant verses and the chores...I just did not have the confidence I would be able to pull it all together in a flawless song for like over 9 minutes.
This song or poem had over 5 pages and I would have to spread it all over the table to see all the words and even if I saw the words and played the song the way I had envisioned it, the course was supposed to be at a faster pace and the verses at a slower pace and I thought surely I would screw it up again and again and again and would be more frustrated then anything. Plus if I wasn't loud enough then the words would be drowned out by the guitar.
The solution? Read it as a poem. It's short, clear and gets the message across. True not as big of an artistic accomplishment but for efficiency sakes, frustration sake and production sake it was the best call just to read it. I can always sing it later if I choose.
Anyway the story and poem is so symbolic of even the modern world even though it talks of sailors at sea.
It's strange what I see in a day with the future past and present so obvious and clear. A poem for the ages.
